My Husband Is 38 Years Old And His Total Cholesterol Is 274,can He Control That Only By Diet?

Diet alone wont help much but exercise is equally important along with diet. he has to avoid ghee, butter, cream, egg yolks, red meat (avoid all meat for few months). also avoiding all fast foods, ice creams. Also avoid all nuts/oilseeds for few months then it can be taken in moderation … 8-10 cashews/almonds/ 2-4 wallnuts, little groudnuts…go for almost boiled foods. maximum 2-3 teaspoons of oil in a day and that’s too olive oil or sunflower oil or soybean oil. eat more fresh fruits and vegetables, sprouts, whole wheat flour, vegetable salad only dressed with lemon. He has to develop healthy dietary habits. If possible seek a help from any dietitian. Also keep starchy foods, sugars, any sweets in control. Can use lemon freely, it will improve the taste of the food.
Its also depend if he has any family history. Might be some drug will be prescribed by the doctor to lower the cholesterol level. If he has a family history then he has to be more careful after things come under control so healthy dietary habits is of immense help to keep things under control along with few life style changes which is not very difficult.
Remember exercise is equally important so its better to seek doctors help in this regard as he will only guide you regarding exercise. never to over stress while doing any exercise. He can go for a brisk walk ( start slowly… start with 1 kilo meter continued for 4-5 days so he will get use to it gradually increasing distance and the speed too slowly) 4-5 kms is enough for him which takes 40-45 mins. Or else he can go for cardiac exercise in a gym but there should be a trained personal trainer to guide you. So make enquiries whether he is properly trained or no?
Also check whether triglycerides is in normal range or no as it is also a risk factor along with cholesterol level. It is also a type of cholesterol.
Good luck !!!

Cholesterol is cholesterol. It is one substance . There are NOT two types
    Trigycerides are NOT cholesterol either.
Cholesterol is erroneously labeled as a fat.

    Hi,
I am a detox specialist and I specialize in helping people get rid of their health problems.
Just controlling by diet may not be enough and he may not be getting enough nutrients in his body if he excessively controls his diet.
I will suggest tat he do a detox as he changes his diet a little. Not only will it control his cholesterol, it will also help him improve his overall health.
My dad lost 8kg within 2 months and had his blood pressure and chlorestrol level go back to normal after the detox.
A detox is healthy because it brings balance back to your body. So at the end of the detox, you will find yourself get more energetic, healthier, more radiant looking as well.
And the detox is simple. All you need to do is three things.
Number one, follow the detox programme which requires you to change your diet a little bit. Eg, take more vege and less meat and seafoods.
Number two, use 1 minute a day to take some natural health foods that I take to enhance the speed and the effect of the detox.
Number three, drink lots of water to flush the toxins out..
    And that’s it.
The rest is up to you.
So what do you think? ;)

Diets aren’t always useful, all they do is make fat cells shrink, they don’t actually remove them. I’d reccomend for your huband to exercise more, but don’t exercise too much at one go.

No, the biggest reason for a higthend cholesterol is in the genes. This cannot be controlled by diet but it can by using medication. A healthy diet is important anyhow and should used irrespective of the cholesterol level.

I can tell you from personal experience that diet and exercise can reduce these numbers. I went from 186 to 146(cholesterol numbers) in 3 months by eating healthy foods – whole grain breads and cereal, skim milk and yogurt, fresh fruits and fresh and cooked vegetables, very little red meat, baked chicken and fish (no skin) and eating 5-6 times a day; also, no white stuff (pasta, white bread, rice, potatoes);NO SUGAR; also 30 minutes of brisk walking per day. It can be done but he needs to be serious about it, otherwise, he needs some medication to help with this. 274 is a dangerous number.

The Cholesterol Theory of coronary artery disease is scientifically untenable crap and has been disproven repeatedly.
All one has to do is rummage throught the full texts of the studies
The problem is people do not look things up for themselves
The Tokeluans of the Pacific Islands – complete lack of CHD and cholesterol levels of 240-300 mg/dl
Look at Larry L’s post about this.
